Worse Addictions: episode 11

In case you missed it, there's been quite a lot of fuss over Matthew Newton's debut feature, special recognition by the inaugural Sydney Film Festival's Official Competition, critical acclaim both here in Australia and in the US, yet it took almost a year for THREE BLIND MICE to find a distributor and an even tougher time finding screens to show the film. You can catch it in Sydney, where the film was shot, playing for the next two Friday nights (25/09, 02/10) at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington and it comes with the highest recommendations of the Worse Addictions crew. Download the episode 11 to hear Scott, Alex, Matt and Dan share their views on this new Aussie pic. Also in the episode, Matt curates a discussion on MOVIE REMAKES, like em or loathe them they have always been a part of the cinematic fabric. The team share their top and worst three remakes of all time and pitch their idea for the ultimate remake. Send your feedback to worseaddictions[at]gmail[dot]com

Worse Addictions: Episode 10

If one podcast was worth one Nazi scalp then we've have a long way to go before delivering Lt Aldo Raine's 100 bloody hair pieces, but 10 podscalps is not a bad start at all. After two previously aborted attempts at an appearance friend of the show Alice Tynan of The Plot Thickens finally joined the Worse Addictions crew of Scott, Matt and Alex to review Quentin Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. Download episode 10 now to find out what the team made of their trip deep into Nazi occupied France. Also in this episode they discuss Sydney's Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival as Matt, who doubles as the festival's artistic director, explains just what mushrooms and poll dancers have got to do with the movies. As always, email your feedback to worseaddictions[at]gmail.com.

Worse Addictions: Episode 9

The poetry of getting to review DISTRICT 9 in episode nine of the Worse Addictions podcast has a reassuring aroma and a taste of fate to it. It is also the episode in which the team were joined by a very special guest in the guise of Steven Kastrissios, director of Australian revenge thriller THE HORSEMAN. Trying to keep pace with Steven's twisted mind was Scott Henderson, Daniel Crichton-Rouse and Josh Wheatley. If it seems like there's a lot of love for DISTRICT 9 stay tuned for our HAYAO MIYAZAKI love-in later in the episode (for which Damien Radford jumps in to share his appreciation of LUPIN III: CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO). Hope you enjoy the new production quality in this episode which was edited by Damien using the freeware application Reaper (Audacity, you're dead to me, but thanks for the memories). We love to hear from some listeners so please send us your feedback to worseaddictions[at]gmail.com

Worse Addictions: Episode 8

Welcome to infinity, also know as Worse Addictions episode 8. Joining Scott for the episode is Matt and Josh in a fairly streamlined episode after last weeks epic from Melbourne. It also marks the end of our protracted discussion of the films of Michael Mann with our review of his latest film Public Enemies. Much to everyone's relief Body Of Lies will be taking on slightly different format from the next episode, so while you'll hear Scott threaten to discuss Hayao Miyazaki (listen for Scott's butching of Miyazaki's first name - even on take 3) for the next four weeks, in actual fact it's not quite gonna pan out that way. But you'll have to tune in for our District 9 review next week to find out more about our plans moving forward. In meantime, please send us your feedback to worseaddictions[at]gmail.com

Worse Addictions: Episode 7

Seven days to create the world, seven deadly sins, Seven Samurai, Seven Brides For Seven Brothersand now seven episodes of Worse Addictions. Alex, Josh, Matt and Scott made their way to down to Melbourne last week to partake in festivities of film, sample the local delights of fast food joint Lord of the Flies and hangout in all the coolest bars. The guys gorged themselves on movies and once they managed to drag Josh away from the front row of the Forum Theatre they sat down and discussed Melbourne International Film Festival pics Balibo, Treeless Mountain and Moon. Not satisfied and knowing that our lovely Worse Addictions listeners have been neglected as we indulged, we also bring you a review of Sam Raimi's return to horror Drag Me To Hell. Finally the guys found time to discuss Michael Mann's films Collateral and Miami Vice. Hope you enjoy this latest episode, as always please feel free to email feedback to worseaddictions[at]gmail.com
